Power BI Foundations & Beyond: Building Skills for Data-Driven Decisions
2½ Days (Approximately 18–20 hours)
Course Introduction:
In today’s data-driven world, organisations need more than just raw numbers — they
need clear, actionable insights.
Microsoft Power BI is a powerful business intelligence tool that allows users to
connect to diverse data sources, transform information, create interactive reports,
and share insights easily across teams.
This 2½-day training program is designed to take participants from the
fundamentals of Power BI through to intermediate-level data modeling, DAX
calculations, and advanced visualisation techniques.
Starting with the basics, participants will learn how to connect to data, clean and
transform it using Power Query, and build visually appealing dashboards.
The training then progresses into intermediate skills, such as creating relationships
between tables, writing DAX formulas for deeper analysis, implementing time
intelligence, and optimising report performance.
Through hands-on exercises and real-world examples, participants will develop
the ability to:
• Prepare and model data effectively
• Create dynamic, interactive reports
• Apply analytical functions to gain deeper insights
• Share and collaborate using the Power BI Service
By the end of the program, participants will have the confidence to design, develop,
and publish professional-grade Power BI reports that support data-driven decisionmaking within their organisation
What You Will Learn:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the Power BI ecosystem, components, and workflow from data
connection to dashboard sharing.
2. Import and connect to a variety of data sources, both local and cloud-based.
3. Clean, transform, and prepare datasets using Power Query for accurate
analysis.
4. Build effective data models with relationships, lookup tables, and optimised
schema design.
5. Apply DAX formulas to perform calculations, aggregations, and time-based
analysis.
6. Create visually engaging and interactive dashboards tailored to different
audiences.
7. Publish, share, and collaborate on reports securely through the Power BI
Service.
8. Optimise data models and reports for better performance and scalability.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Knowledge:
• Explain key Power BI concepts, architecture, and the difference between
Desktop, Service, and Mobile.
• Identify best practices in data preparation, modeling, and visualisation design.
Skills:
• Use Power Query to clean, reshape, and merge datasets.
• Build and manage relationships between multiple tables.
• Write DAX formulas to perform calculations, create measures, and implement
time intelligence.
• Design dashboards with interactive visuals, drill-throughs, and bookmarks.
• Publish and manage reports in the Power BI Service, including scheduling
data refreshes.
